About Dr. Nitant Shah
MS, DNB, FCPS, DOMS, MBBS
Dr. Nitant Shah, a highly esteemed ophthalmologist, holds multiple qualifications including MS, DNB, FCPS, DOMS, MBBS, MRCS (Edinburgh, UK), FNB (Retina), and FMRF (Fellow Vitreo-Retinal Surgery, Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai). He completed his M.B.B.S from BJ Medical College, University of Pune, in 1997, graduating with a gold medal in his final exams. He further specialized in ophthalmology, obtaining an MS from Sion Hospital, University of Mumbai in 2000, where he also earned a gold medal. Additionally, he was awarded gold medals for DOMS and FCPS in ophthalmology from CPS, Mumbai, and completed his DNB in ophthalmology the same year. In 2006, Dr. Shah achieved his MRCS from Edinburgh, UK.
Dr. Shah’s super-specialty training is extensive and impressive. He completed his fellowship in Vitreo-Retinal Surgery at the renowned Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, where he was honored with the Dr. V T Doshi Gold Medal as the Best Outgoing Fellow for 2002-2003.

He also earned his FNB in Retina from the National Board of Examinations in 2003. From April 2005 to October 2007, he underwent super-specialist training in Surgical and Medical Retina, Uvea, and Neuro-Ophthalmology at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS, United Kingdom.
In his professional career, Dr. Shah has performed over 5,000 vitreo-retinal surgeries and 10,000 laser procedures, focusing on vitreo-retinal and cataract surgery, retinal lasers, and posterior segment trauma. He is adept at surgeries for retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, and trauma, as well as administering intravitreal injections for ARMD and macular disorders. Dr. Shah has authored 13 peer-reviewed publications in prestigious international journals and has been an invited faculty member at numerous state, national, and international conferences. Notably, he was an invited faculty member on SAAM TV in June 2011 for an educational program on diabetic retinopathy, further showcasing his commitment to advancing ophthalmic knowledge and patient care.
